James Taylor & Carole King Thank Fans for Troubadour Reunion Tour Success
In a summer of dismal concert news, with numerous shows and tours canceled due to illness or poor ticket sales, James Taylor and Carole King's joint Troubadour Reunion tour was a bright spot. The tour, which wrapped Tuesday night, grossed over 41 million dollars, making it among the top five most successful treks of 2010 so far. James and Carole have now created a YouTube video thanking their fans for making the experience what James describes as "the thrill of a lifetime."
In the video, James says incredulously, "You set the thing up a year in advance, can't believe it's actually ever gonna happen...then opening night comes and it becomes a reality, and then you can't believe that it'll ever end. It's just amazing that we've made it here." Carole says, "We so appreciate our fans coming out...in such huge numbers, astonishing numbers. We're so grateful to have done this for so many people."
To sum up the tour experience, Carole says she'd use one word: "Joy." She explains, "This has been a joy to work with James, this great band and to feel the energy coming from the audience -- the appreciation, the love, the realization that as we're playing these songs, people are remembering parts of their lives...it's just overwhelmingly joyous." Though the two have said there won't be another Troubadour Reunion tour, Carole tells fans that this won't be the last time she and James, who've been friends for 40 years, will perform together.
The Troubadour Reunion tour was inspired by a sold-out series of concerts James and Carole did at L.A's famed Troubadour Club in 2007 to mark its 50th anniversary. The two, who'd first played the club together in 1970, enjoyed the experience so much that they came up with the idea of taking it on the road.
